Eircom’s eFibre Coverage Maps Misleading

Eircom Today Launched their long awaited VDSL product – Fibre to the cabinet, offering speeds of up to 70M down and 20M up, to Business and Residential customers.

What everybody want’s to know is – can I get it? At a first glance, everything looks great, however when you dig into the coverage map there are huge sections within the Green Coverage area which actually do not have coverage.

We tested several addresses well inside the indicated coverage, and they all failed testing. It seems only locations in the town centres really have coverage, the map above is very mis-leading.

Eircom’s eFibre Coverage map indicates VDSL coverage in the Middle of Lough Owel and Lough Ennell – certainly it needs to be taken with a grain of salt – Maybe its based on NGB Exchange Boundaries, which just happens to be drawn thru lakes.

Whatever this map is based on, it does not appear to reflect actual coverage. It would be interesting to see if there is a map available of enabled cabinets rather than exchange boundaries. This certainly would be would be more meaningful?
